Improving the Lives

of the Impoverished

Program Goals

Village Hope International Ministries trade school

Our immediate goal is to build facilities in rural areas where community members can come and train in small business entrepreneurship, computer skills, knitting, carpentry and much more, to alleviate and break the cycle of poverty.

Recognizing the needs that exist among our target population, Village Hope International Ministries’ staff provides individuals with access to vocational training and educational services that focus on individual empowerment.

Throughout the continuation of the proposed activities, our organization will address the needs of our target communities, brighten lives and assist each participant with achieving their own unique and personal goals. Our organization’s objectives are accomplished by implementation of stimulating activities and materials that are organized around a well-developed prospectus.

Our organization strives to serve as many people as possible with the resources we have available. Every individual is important to our organization and we will not discriminate against anyone. By offering services that are concentrated on those less fortunate and addressing the greatest needs of our target community, we can make a positive contribution in helping the people we work with to lead a more fulfilling life.

Building Schools

Village Hope International Ministries Inc, school building

Our goal is to build a structure where all training will take place. Currently, there is no college of any kind in Kasempa. Young people who finish grade 12 have nothing more to do.

Our building project includes surveying 14 acres of land, drawing the blue print, laying the foundation, drilling a water well, building the walls, and connecting electricity from outside. Little by little we see the progress taking place.

Our goal is to complete building all sections of the school and setting up the facilities for our vocational educational services. The Trade School includes approximately 3,100 sq. feet of classroom, dining, kitchen, storage, office and bathroom, plus approximately 4,450 sq. ft. for 17 living quarters. By then we can benefit approximately 250 boarding students annually in our four-week-program-completion plan.

Vocational Training

Since our formation, our representatives have successfully operated a vocational training program for individuals living in the North Western Province of Zambia. Many of these community members are faced with educational and social barriers that can impact their ability to reach their professional goals. We assist each client to work through their obstacles by offering comprehensive training programs in the areas of small business entrepreneurship, computer skills, etc. In recent years, people have been trained in mushroom growing, which with a micro loan can not only provide food for the family, but also provide income. The goal is to help people in the village to use the natural resources God has given them to establish businesses.

Village Hope International Ministries’ educational programs are currently available to community members that are thirteen years old and older. Each student will spend up to four weeks completing an innovative, hands-on course that ensures they have the skills required to become gainfully employed or start their own business.

Our activities are overseen by a group of well- qualified individuals. Our diverse staff members have ties to the community and possess the unique ability to relate to the target demographic.

Meeting the Needs of Children in Orphanages

Village Hope International Ministries orphans

The death rate in Zambia is very high. Life expectancy averages 49 years for men and 50 years for women. Because of the absence of functional public health and lack of medication, people die from anything like malaria to undiagnosed sicknesses. As such they leave behind children who become orphaned.

Village Hope embraces the idea of putting the orphans in families so they can grow up in a family setting. Sometimes it is an older sibling taking care of the young siblings, and sometimes it is an old person who takes on the responsibility. Village Hope has come alongside to provide financial and material help to such families for orphans. Orphans suffer when there is not enough to eat, they often get less than the other children in the household. They are often the last to get shoes, the last to go to school, etc. Village Hope has also come along side such organizations as: Dove and Kubelaka aba Muchana who are helping orphans in Zambia.

Barrels of Blessings

Village Hope International Ministries Barrels of Blessings

Each year since 2005, we ship barrels of shoes, clothes, books and other supplies from USA to the city of Kasempa. This village is the childhood home of missionary Sister Ruth Munkabanda Powell. There is no industry in the area and no jobs.

We call these barrels, “Barrels-of-Blessings” because the items shipped in them support the children, families and the building project. Most children we support are orphans who have been placed in homes for mental health and for stability.

A 55-gallon-barrel can be shipped to Zambia for $350.00, an opportunity to help the less privileged children in Zambia. This program provides children in poverty with HOPE and it helps to fulfill their dreams.

Evangelization and Spiritual Nurturing

Village Hope International Ministries Inc, students in class

The vocational school is earmarked to contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty among the people.  The target group is the young people who lack opportunities to go to college in spite of their great potential.

While Village Hope endeavors to help young people to change their economic and social status by training them in various skills according to their ability, we take heart to provide them spiritual nurturing by presenting the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  From time to time Ruth conducts Bible studies and trainings in evangelism that are coordinated by local churches in Kasempa.

Micro Business Loans

Village Hope International Ministries microloans

Village Hope International Ministries (VHIM) Inc., has successfully operated vocational training programs in the areas of small business entrepreneurship and mushroom growing. When people are trained, they are unable to start a business because they lack startup capital.

Village Hope would like to create Microloans of $200 – $300 that will help groups or individuals to start a business.

In the past we granted funds to a young man who successfully started a barber shop. We did the same with a $124 grant to others who are now succeeding in their goat and chicken business.

Please, help us today to expand this much needed loan program. Our goal is to raise $10,000 and help 30 people annually. Please note that this $10,000 can then be used continuously year after year, as loans are granted then repaid.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your donations are eligible for tax deduction. Thank you for your love in supporting our projects. May God bless you richly!
